President’s Update

7 August 2022

Greetings!  Another hot summer in the Sandhills and a busy one for our Chapter.  We ended our Spring with our May luncheon featuring Col. Peter Dotto at the Pinecrest Inn.  Peter updated us on the current views on volunteerism and the difficulty in recruiting younger generation veterans to engage with service organizations like MOAA.  It was a fascinating discussion and we appreciate Peter’s thoughtful presentation.

We’ve started planning for the upcoming Fall and there are several events I want to bring to your attention.  First, we’ll resume our member luncheons in September, we’ll be meeting at the Pinecrest Inn on September 13th.  A separate announcement will be sent out shortly.  In October the chapter will be represented at several community outreach events with emphasis on recruitment starting with Autumnfest in Southern Pines.  We’ll also be present at Holly Arts & Crafts Festival in The Village of Pinehurst and the Festival D’Avion at the Moore County Airport.

As reported earlier and in support of these outreach events we’ve adopted Wreaths Across America as a parallel project.  Iggi Husar initiated and is coordinating our project.  We’ve also starting the the planning for the 1st Annual Ralph Jacobson Putting Challenge to be held on November 10th at the Pinehurst Country Club.  Diana DiStefano is chairing the planning committee for that event.  More to follow regarding the putting challenge.

Once again our chapter will be hosting the Veteran’s Day recognition service on November 11th.  Bob Fazio is coordinating that event.  I’ve included a list of events for the balance of 2022 below and look forward to seeing you in September.
